I heard if you…well you heard wrong! -Top 10 beauty myths everyone knows about but still doesn’t seem to believe.

There are so many beauty myth’s that are passed down from generation to generation that we hear, and are not exactly true; but for some reason we keep doing or believing these things. I guess it’s because so many of us hear it time and time again, it would seem that it must be true right? Well wrong! Here are the top ten.

1. Shaving does not make you grow more hair, nor thicker or darker hair.-Okay so think about it. How would that even be possible? You are cutting hair on your skin’s surface, not penetrating your skin and damaging the follicle. The hair appears thicker and darker because you are cutting the hair bluntly. Because it appears thicker and darker, that makes it also seem like there’s more hair growing as well.

2. You cannot shrink your pores-I know, I know, there’s a ton of ads promoting products that claim to do so. Well it’s not true. There’s no way to change the size of your pores. You can make them appear smaller to the eye for a temporary effect, but that about it. Pores do not actually shrink and products basically just fill them in like putty temporarily.

3. Dark circles are not caused by lack of sleep-That’s right! You know what you can do to prevent dark circles? NOTHING. It’s genetic. You’re either prone to them or you’re not. It’s that simple. Lack of sleep may cause a little puffiness, but again not the circles.

4. Tweezing a Grey hair does not cause more to grow-It doesn’t I promise! It’s probably not a good idea to do it and it kinda hurts but it will not cause more growth. If you’re still worried then just trim it.

5. Chocolate and greasy foods to not cause breakouts-Nope, they don’t. You shouldn’t be eating those things anyway right? If you do though; instead of worrying about two things you’ll only have to worry about one. Your health.

6. Split ends cannot be mended with products-Yes ladies it’s just marketing. The only way to mend those ends is to cut them off!

7. Crossing your legs does not cause varicose or spider veins-Another problem that’s mostly hereditary too. Sorry ladies. Being on your feet all day can slightly cause them as well but it’s pretty much your genetics.

8. Stress does not cause Grey hair-What?! Yes it’s true! Like most of our “problems,” Grey hair is cause by genetics and again of course.

9. You cannot remove your cellulite-That’s what I said. You can use all the lotions and potions and laser treatments you want, but cellulite is here to stay. Fat or skinny most have  women it and like everything else, it’s hereditary .So thank the one’s who you were before you.

10. DRINKING WATER DOES NOTHING FOR YOUR SKIN-This is the number one beauty myth of all. Even though it’s been said time and time again; people still believe this to be true. It’s not. Hey of course you should drink a lot of water, but getting good skin out of it will not happen. It fact your skin needs oil and that makes it healthy. Using sunscreen won’t hurt either.

Comment? Questions? I’m a licensed esthetician so just ask!

What’s the Skinny?

You’re so skinny do you eat? Have you lost weight? You’re so thin. These are things that some of my friends and I hear on a pretty consistent basis; and no, we don’t take it as a compliment. Here’s why…

I don’t come up to you and say; you’re so fat. Do you ever stop eating? It’s the same thing. You may not look at it that way but it is. I would never say anything like that to anyone anyway as I’m just trying to make a point. If I’m asked a question by a close friend of course I would be honest but I’m not going to verbally attack you.  First of all I didn’t ask. I’m sure my friends and acquaintances don’t mean any harm, but the tones in people’s voice’s when they say it, sounds like they are in disgust like I’m a super super skinny twig who’s about to keel over. I’m not. I have a small frame and yes I do eat. I have been the same size since high school. Am I supposed to gain weight because I’m older now? I’m not doing anything different and have never been on a diet. It’s just the way my body is.

This has bothered me for a while now and I get offended every time I hear it, but I just smile and blow it off like I don’t care because I don’t want to make a big thing about it. Recently though I have had a couple of my friends on Facebook talk about this and saw something else written about this very subject so I just felt like I had to comment on it.

It’s also a little bit more than saying you’re so skinny. That’s just the beginning. When it starts getting is really offensive is when people start saying negative and mean comments about being thin. The best comment is “real women have curves.” Okay so I’m not a REAL women because I have a small frame and I’m thin? Well fuck you! Well I am a real women and I do have curves. Even if a women doesn’t, and she has a small chest and flat butt; well she was born that way. Sorry she didn’t get plastic surgery. I guess she’s not a real women. Look I want women to be proud of who they are and comfortable in their bodies. All women. Everyone is built differently and whatever is healthy for your body is the way to go.  I just feel like we are celebrating being overweight in a way sometimes. Like I should feel bad because I’m not, if that makes sense.  Just because the average population in the US is overweight and that’s the norm, then that means it’s okay. Well it’s not. That’s a whole other subject though. Again what I really wanted to convey here is, to please just understand that because you may not think these are negative comments, and you are not purposely trying to hurt us, it still does. We are ALL real women and should always support each other.

Pony’s Pick of the Week!

Happy hump day! It’s been a while since I’ve written anything; life just got too busy…BUT I realized this is something I really love to do so…here I am! Again. Every week I will post “Pony’s Pick of the Week,” which will feature products reviews, music, movies, make-up, basically whatever I feel like writing about. Please enjoy my little ponies.

urban decay eyeliner perversion 24 7 glide on blackest black colour makeup blog looks fotd eotd beauty reviews ingredients use swatchesThis weeks pick is for the ladies and maybe some men. It’s 24/7 glide on eye pencil by Urban Decay in Perversion. I use other colors as well but today I’m just going to talk about “perversion.” This is the best Black eye-liner I have ever used. Of course I haven’t tried them all, but I can say on the last 20+ years; it is the best I have found. I don’t know about you ladies but I seem to have a difficult time with application, smudging, thick lines, un-even lines, you name it! What’s a girl to do?! There are times I have to erase and erase and….well you get the picture. Start over! UGH. That Always seems to happen when I’m in a hurry too. Of course right? Well after I start over a couple a times, it doesn’t seem to look so great no matter what I do. By that time my skin and red and raw. Not a good look.

You’re in luck! This eye pencil glides on so smoothly it’s effortless. It’s not completely smug proof since it is a pencil; but it does stay on the entire day and I never have to re-apply. The color is very rich and very dark Black. Yes black is Black but some are lighter, some are darker. Especially when it comes to make-up. This looks as dark as a liquid liner does basically. I have a difficult time with liquid liner so this is a great alternative virtually giving the same look. It doesn’t skip either. I’m able to line my eye with one stroke with no mistakes, yay!

So go pick up yours today. You can find Urban Decay at Macy’s, Sephora, Ulta as well as on-line. It retails for about $20.

If there’s an eye-liner you think is great or if you have tried the 24/7 pencil, I would like to hear your opinion. Please comment below and share this with others. I appreciate your support!
